Coaching vs. Therapy
Tori is a Certified Life Coach in addition to being a Licensed Associate Counselor, so she is able to provide both life coaching and therapy; however, she cannot mix the two. In order to work together, let's determine whether you are interested in life coaching or therapy.
First thing - Tori is licensed to provide therapy only in the state of Arkansas, aka you must be physically present in the state of Arkansas for therapy sessions. With life coaching, you can work with Tori regardless of where you reside.
The major difference between therapy and life coaching is the focus of the work. Therapy focuses on mental health and the treatment of mental illnesses, while life coaching focuses on setting and achieving goals. Therapy is more about deep emotional healing and life coaching is more about here-and-now behavioral interventions/strategies.
Life coaching starts in the present and moves forward to achieve goals.
Therapy deals with how your past has impacted the present.
What coaching looks like is you and Tori would meet for a 1:1 coaching session via Zoom every week. In these sessions, you will brainstorm goals and come up with actionable steps to achieve those goals through specific strategies and skills. As your life coach, Tori will help you focus, provide direction, challenge you, support you, motivate you, and celebrate with you. She will help you create a plan with detailed action steps and hold you accountable for following through. Tori will use skills such as observing, active listening, asking empowering questions, challenging, motivating, and holding you accountable. You will not counsel or analyze the past. Life coaching is not therapy. As a life coach, Tori cannot diagnose or treat mental illness. Life coaching is based on the belief that you already possess the intrinsic ability to determine and achieve your goals. It is focused on the present and what you want to achieve moving forward. Sometimes you just need a little bit of help - and that's what Tori is here for!
